Staff member Walter C. Kidney received a commendation from Catherine Baker Knoll, Lieutenant Governor of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, for his authorship of the book Oakland in Pittsburgh: Images of America.

The book contains a brief photographic essay of Oakland and its environs.
