Workshop: Introduction to Home Improvement

FREEThe ability to complete even the smallest home improvement begins with a basic foundation of skills with hand tools and power tools. The Landmarks Preservation Resource Center, in a partnership with DIY Pittsburgh, will offer a Home Improvement Workshop Series. In this session, you will learn how to use the most common hand tools and power tools of the trade in home improvement such as a hand saw, circular saw, hammer, nail gun, screw gun, drill, square, and miter saw. You will also learn the most basic of skills; how to read a tape measure to 1/16 of an inch.
This lecture is free and open to the public.

About the presenter: Michael R. Wetmiller is the founder of DIY Pittsburgh, Remodeling Consultants & Educators. Michael has a unique background that combines professional experience as both a carpenter and an educator. He created DIY Pittsburgh with a simple mission: Teach homeowners the skills and knowledge needed to remodel their own homes.
Currently a middle school principal, Michael was originally a journeyman carpenter. He has experience in commercial and residential construction and attended a four-year carpenter’s apprenticeship training program in the mid-1990’s. Michael also has a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Pittsburgh and a Master of Science in Education from Duquesne University. He worked as a teacher in a Pittsburgh area high school for 6 years before becoming a principal. Michael combined his knowledge as a carpenter with his ability to teach to create DIY Pittsburgh.
