Workshop: How to Frame a Wall

Wood framing is the structural skeleton of your home. The Landmarks Preservation Resource Center, in a partnership with DIY Pittsburgh, will offer a Home Improvement Workshop Series.  If you are planning a remodeling project that includes opening walls or adding on this course will help you tackle the job in a safe and structurally sound manner.  Students will learn safe use of hand and power tools, layout, measuring, cutting, and ultimately how to frame a wall with a window and a door.
This lecture is free and open to the public.

About the presenter: Michael R. Wetmiller is the founder of DIY Pittsburgh, Remodeling Consultants & Educators.  Michael has a unique background that combines professional experience as both a carpenter and an educator.  He created DIY Pittsburgh with a simple mission: Teach homeowners the skills and knowledge needed to remodel their own homes.

Currently a middle school principal, Michael was originally a journeyman carpenter.  He has experience in commercial and residential construction and attended a four-year carpenter’s apprenticeship training program in the mid-1990’s.  Michael also has a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Pittsburgh and a Master of Science in Education from Duquesne University.  He worked as a teacher in a Pittsburgh area high school for 6 years before becoming a principal.  Michael combined his knowledge as a carpenter with his ability to teach to create DIY Pittsburgh.
