Explore the visible layers of history in this East End neighborhood, which has experienced enormous change and development in the last fifteen years. In this tour, you will learn why the neighborhood was once considered Pittsburgh’s “second downtown,” discover its role in the history of cinema, and see how East Liberty’s historic legacy has been both preserved and altered in its Historic Commercial District.

In seeing both traces of the city’s largest urban renewal project during the Pittsburgh Renaissance and a church that has occupied the same site through five buildings, participants will develop an appreciation for this resilient neighborhood.
