The Courthouse & City-County Building In Depth (Downtown Walking Tour)

August 20, 2019 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am

Tuesday, August 20, 2019
10:00 to 11:30 a.m.

You’ll explore two of the city’s most significant buildings, inside and out. The Allegheny County Courthouse, designed in 1884 by H. H. Richardson and completed in 1888, was dedicated 100 years after the incorporation of Allegheny County. The City-County Building, designed in 1915 by Henry Hornbostel, was nearly completed in 1916, marking the centennial of the City’s incorporation in 1816. Both buildings were designed by architects who studied at the prestigious Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, France. Both Richardson and Hornbostel collaborated with the best artists and craftsmen of the day to create buildings “tuned to the eye” and a joy to explore.
