Tarentum Walking Tour
April 18, 2020 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Join us for an afternoon of architecture and good food in this historic Allegheny-River borough. Participants will drive to Tarentum in their own vehicles and first enjoy a lunch at JG’s Tarentum Station Grille. Cindy Homburg, who is Tarentum’s resident historian, and David Rankin, Executive Director of Faith Community Partners will then lead us on a 90-minute walking tour of historic cultural, civic, religious, and educational buildings. A highlight will be Central Presbyterian Church, where area craftsmen have restored many of the stained-glass windows in the past five years, funded in part by grants from PHLF’s Historic Religious Properties Program. We also will see a 19th-century church, complete with a working antique pipe organ and several other original features, that was recently restored and repurposed as an event venue.
Our tour will end with coffee and a sampling of chocolates at one of the newest additions to Tarentum’s business district.
