Society of Tavern Seekers

June 21, 2012 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

$10

Join us at our next Society of Tavern Seekers (SOTS) event at Penn Brewery as we continue our exploration of storied bars, taverns, and clubs in and around the City.

For our second SOTS event this year, we head to Penn Brewery, a Pittsburgh institution at the foot of Troy Hill. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the brewery is housed in three buildings, which were the Eberhardt & Ober Brewing Company, which began brewing in 1848. The central building and the stock house, date in their present form, from 1894.

A public-private partnership formed in 1986, resulted in the Penn Brewery, which turned the buildings into a craft brewery and restaurant making authentic German-style beer and food. A loan from PHLF helped initiate the successful renovation project.

The evening will include a short presentation about the brewery and the buildings, followed by a tour.

SOTS is a gathering of historic preservation enthusiasts, organized by PHLF, to create social and professional networks of people engaged and interested in the work and mission of PHLF, one of the nation’s premier historic preservation organizations.

There will be a $10 cover charge. RSVPs appreciated to Mary Lu Denny at marylu@phlf.org or 412-471-5808, ext. 527.
