Highland Park Urban Hike

May 21, 2016 @ 1:00 pm - 4:30 pm

Saturday, May 21, 2016
Highland Park Urban Hike
1:00 to 4:30 pm

Advance paid reservations required by May 19: marylu@phlf.org; 412-471-5808, ext. 527
$20 members of PHLF, Highland Park, and East Liberty community groups.
$45 non-members (includes one-year membership in PHLF).
Limited to 35 people.

Wear very comfortable walking shoes and dress for the weather.
The walk is just over one mile, on generally level terrain, with two uphill/downhill climbs. We will be walking at a moderate to fast pace. There will be three indoor stops.
If you are driving, we recommend that you find on-street parking on N. Highland Avenue near Hampton Street or Bryant Street, so when the tour ends at Highland Park, you have a downhill walk to your car that will not be too far away.

We’ll head east to the historic Highland Park neighborhood, where representatives from the Highland Park Community Council, Highland Park Community Development Corporation, and East Liberty Historical Society will join our PHLF guides in leading an ambitious walking tour, including the following:

May 21 Rocky Moment DSCN9364A look inside 920 N. Sheridan Avenue, the home J. Horace Rudy built in 1901 for his new wife and himself. Rudy embellished their home with glass he designed.
A visit to St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church complex (1905-09) at 5801 Hampton Street (and a walk past Pittsburgh Fulton, a handsome Romanesque design).
Light refreshments at Joseph Tambellini Restaurant at 5701 Bryant Street.
A walk past “Baywood,” the Alexander King estate off N. Negley Avenue.
A walk into Highland Park––and a “Rocky moment” for those who have the energy to run up the stone steps leading to the Reservoir!

Meeting location:
12:50 pm: 920 N. Sheridan Avenue, Pittsburgh PA 15206
(outside the Horace Rudy house)

Ending location:
Highland Park Reservoir
