Art Symposium: Commissioning Artists for Residential and Small Commercial Projects

FREEHave you ever wanted to commission a unique element for your home or office, like a stained glass window, bike rack, railing, or piece of furniture? This workshop will focus on how to commission artists to create building parts for the home or business. The Office of Public Art will present examples and talk about the process of hiring an artist, such as contracts, budgets, and reviewing design ideas. An artist and a homeowner who has commissioned an artist will be present to talk about their experiences. This workshop will be useful for artists and people seeking to commission artists.
This workshop is free and open to the public.

- 20 minutes, Office of Public Art introduction
OPA will show examples of artist designed building parts and share resources for how to locate an artist, develop a contract, budget, and work schedule. - 20 minutes, Artist talk Artist Keny Marshal will talk about a commissioned work for a local church and his experience working with private clients. (Speaker to be confirmed)
- 20 minutes, Homeowner and Artist talk Chuck Alcorn, homeowner, and Davia Davis, artist, will describe the process of creating a unique window in Chuck’s Lawrenceville home. (Speakers to be confirmed)
- 30 minutes, question and answer session/panel OPA and the artist and homeowner will be able to answer questions from the audience.
