Tour guides from PHLF will lead an entertaining walk in Pittsburgh’s Oakland neighborhood highlighting British connections in architecture, art, literature and even street names. You’ll find out what building contains “more of the original material from the old House of Commons than exists anywhere else in the world,” and learn the story of Schenley Park, the Oakland Civic Center, and Schenley Farms. Participants will briefly visit the Carnegie Music Hall, the Shakespeare Statue, the Scottish Nationality Room, and the Croghan-Schenley Ballroom. Plus, they’ll view Oakland from the 36th floor of the Cathedral of Learning and hear about the origins of Pittsburgh’s Civic Center, thanks to gifts from Mary Schenley, Andrew Carnegie, and others.
Wear comfortable walking shoes and dress for the weather.
