The word “marine” means having to do with the sea. Throughout history, marine banks were opened to lend money to ship captains or to people who were building ships or moving things by water. Since Pittsburgh was located on three rivers, many ships were built here years ago and many things were carried by boat and barge on the rivers. Although Pittsburgh's Marine Bank has closed, the building is still being used for offices and stores. It's good this building has been recycled because it's a great home for the grotesque!
