About 400 people filled the gymnasium of Phillips Elementary School on April 7, 2005. Students from Arlington Elementary, Bishop Leonard Catholic, and Philip Murray Elementary arrived via Molly's Trolleys. Representatives from The History Channel, Lowe's, Comcast, and the Pittsburgh History & Landmarks Foundation spoke about Pittsburgh's Save Our History program. Distinguished guests included Councilman Gene Ricciardi; State Representatives Jake Wheatley and Harry Readshaw; Jay French, from Senator Rick Santorum's office; Pat Fisher and Richard Mascari of the Pittsburgh Public Schools; and Bruce Kraus of the South Side Chamber of Commerce. Judith Klein Frimer, Director of Brand Enhancement for The History Channel, said to the students: "You folks are the whole future of saving our history. Unless you understand and treasure it, we won't have a history and neither will your children's children." |
