Neighborhood Walking Tour: Sharpsburg—A Rivertown Revival
$20.00
Join our docents on a walk back in time and into the future of Sharpsburg. This community on the Allegheny River has been home, at various times, to the Seneca tribe of Native Americans, sturdy pioneers, and immigrants who labored on the Pennsylvania Canal, railroads, mills, and factories. Famously the birthplace, in 1869, of what would eventually become the H. J. Heinz Company, Sharpsburg is now part of the Triboro Ecodistrict—a collaboration of Sharpsburg and the neighboring rivertowns of Millvale and Etna to promote sustainable community development. Tour participants will see a wonderful mixture of historic buildings that give character and distinction to the resilient community that has withstood floods, fires, and the impact of the canal, railroad, and Route 28.
