Since its establishment in 2004, the Pittsburgh firm Fisher ARCHitecture has created buildings that surprise and provoke wonder with unique designs that are beautifully crafted and rooted in practical purpose. Through projects like the Emerald Art Glass House and the Aspinwall Marina, Fisher ARCHitecture also has given life to its belief that architecture can change how we experience the world.
Having spent the last four summers working remotely from Italy, principals Eric Fisher and Bea Spolidoro have had the opportunity to compare American and European practices. Their conclusion: American architects can learn a great deal from their European counterparts, whether renovating buildings or constructing new ones. Fisher and Spolidoro have been especially inspired by the responsiveness of European buildings to their place in the world. In this presentation, they will explore these themes by illustrating how the design, construction, and space of the best European new buildings and renovations respond to their context and climate.
