Huge stones cover the old jail wall. For 109 years, from 1886 until 1995, prisoners were kept in the Allegheny County Jail. The Jail became too crowded, even though architect Frederick Osterling had enlarged Richardson’s jail in 1904. In 1995 the prisoners were moved to a new jail.
