A keystone is the wedge-shaped stone at the center of an arch that completes the arch. All the other stones in the arch depend on the keystone. By naming a bank the Keystone Bank, the owners were letting people know that people could depend on their bank. In American history, one state was called the “Keystone State” because of its key location and importance in the original 13 colonies.
