Rodef_ShalomThis urban hike mixes three masterpieces designed by Henry Hornbostel––the Westinghouse Memorial (1930) in Schenley Park, with the original campus of Carnegie Mellon University (1904 and after), and Rodef Shalom Congregation (1906-07)––with original compositions by young students in Jennie Dorris’ Creative Expression class who are inspired by the College of Fine Arts lobby and Rodef Shalom. Join PHLF Executive Director Louise Sturgess and Architect Paul Tellers on this urban hike and musical adventure.

PHLF began its collaboration with Creative Expression in 2015. As part of their class, young people are given experience working with community collaborators and creating musical responses to the world around them. During PHLF’s bus tour to All Saints Church in Etna last year, the young musicians performed original compositions inspired by the stained glass windows. Jennie Dorris, an interdisciplinary artist and CMU Prep faculty member, received the Create Award in Art + Technology from the Pittsburgh Technology Council for the creation of this programming.

Please bring a drink and snack to enjoy as you walk. Dress for the weather and wear comfortable walking shoes.
